Farm Office Procedures Workshop
Partners in Grain are running the Farm Office Procedures Workshops throughout the northern agricultural region in January; the workshop covers every aspect of running an efficient farm office. NEFF will be teaming up with PinG to bring the workshop to Mullewa.
The Farm Office Procedures Workshop has been run in various areas in 2007 and 2008 and has been received well by both men and women.
Presenter Jeanette Buegge will cover the following topics:

Climate Adaptation Procedures Workshop- JULY 2008
In response to requests from farmers in the north east regions; the following discussions took place in Perenjori, Morawa, Mullewa, Yuna and Binnu to gain the local growers opinions and present research results.
Discussion Topics:
- Viability of Farming in the NEAR: Cameron Weeks, Planfarm
Results of reports commissioned by DAFWA.
Discussions addressing some of the immediate challenges for farming this region. - Potential impact of climate change in the NEAR: Caroline Peek, DAFWA
DAFWAs Results of the potential medium & long term impact.
Grower discussion on potential ideas or solutions moving into the future. - Potential for Stock in the NEAR: Tim Wiley and Sam Harburg, DAFWA

Understanding Grain Marketing Workshop 1 and 2- September 2008
The ‘Understanding Grain Marketing Program' UGM was a joint project between NACMAWA, DAFWA and Curtin University, with course content managed by the Training and Education Working Group TEWG
UGM I workshop gave an understanding of:
- The fundamental supply and demand principles of international markets and WA's place in it.
- The differences in the risks/rewards of cash market or pooling alternatives.
- The components of price, and price discovery and risk management
- Contracting principles and dispute settlement mechanisms
UGM II workshop built on the UGM I themes and delivered greater detail on;
- Hedging grain using swap and cash contracts and risks/rewards of both
- Developing a methodology to model and manage crop production and market exposure position risk
- Developing a methodology to model and manage price volatility and basis risk.
